Spreading the idea of inquiry-based learning to various target groups
Implementing inquiry-based learning into day-to-day teaching is not only a matter of running professional development courses; it also means spreading the idea to various target groups and informing them about inquiry-based learning for the following reasons:
- In order to reach and inform as many teachers as possible, dissemination activities (like conferences) are needed which reach a large number of teachers
- Heads of schools can hinder or support teachers in their efforts to implement new ways of teaching, for example by giving teachers specific timeslots for collaboration and by motivating them to go to professional development activities. For this reason they also need to be addressed
- Other target groups like parents and pupils can have a huge impact on whether teachers continue their efforts of evolving their practice or not: Negative reactions from parents who feel unsure about new pedagogies might prevent teachers from using innovative pedagogies
Our two guides for dissemination activities will give providers valuable advice on how to carry out activities. They also provide case studies from the partnership nations which show an interesting variety of possibilities.
